This article reviews the use of natural language processing (NLP) for mental health interventions (MHI). After screening 19,756 candidate studies, 102 studies were included in the final sample. Results indicate a growth of NLP for MHI applications, with the majority of interventions consisting of synchronous therapy and Motivational Interviewing as the most reported therapy modality. The majority of studies used text data from manual transcripts, while 18 studies used machine-transcription generated from audio sources.
