Elon Musk spoke at the Viva Tech conference in Paris last week about the promise and dangers of A.I. He discussed Tesla’s work on two A.I.-enabled technologies, self-driving cars and humanoid robots, and said he thought it was these technologies that explained the company’s $816 billion market cap. At the same time, a panel on “Media Literacy in the Age of A.I.” discussed the potential for A.I.-generated content to lead to a phenomenon known as “the liar’s dividend” where politicians, governments, and corporations gain the ability to escape accountability.
