How The Federal Government Wants To “root Out Discrimination” From Artificial Intelligence Systems

President Joe Biden recently signed an executive order to advance racial equity in the federal government. The order instructs federal agencies to “root out bias” in artificial intelligence (A.I.) technologies in a manner that promotes equity and is consistent with applicable law. The order aims to tackle discrimination in education, healthcare, the housing market, civil rights, and criminal justice, and instructs the Office of Management and Budget to facilitate “equitable decision-making, promote the equitable deployment of financial and technical assistance, and assist agencies in advancing equity, as appropriate and wherever possible.”
