The UK is facing a shortage of diagnostic equipment, ranking 25th out of 28 OECD countries. To address this issue, the government has announced the creation of new community diagnostic centres and allocated funding for technological and digital transformation, including upgrading diagnostic equipment. Ongoing research and trials are exploring the potential for AI to improve the accuracy and efficiency of diagnostics. Without sustained investment, the expansion of diagnostics to meet rising demand will be hindered by lack of staff and supplies.
