The world’s major powers are engaged in a fierce technological race to gain supremacy in key sectors such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnologies, clean energy, aerospace and telecommunications. In March, the United States was struggling to maintain its supremacy, China was advancing strongly, and the European Union was lagging behind. A study published by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) concluded that Western democracies are losing out in the global technology competition.
