Optus is investing in AI and machine learning to detect and block scam text messages in near real-time. The telco already has a number of tools in place to protect its customers, such as an SMS firewall, blacklist of identified scam numbers, alpha tags, alphanumeric sender IDs, and smart content filtering analysis. Optus is also partnering with various Australian governments and looking for malicious URLs, particular phrases, and callback numbers.
