AI is facing a diversity crisis, with more than 80% of AI professors being men and Black individuals making up only 2.5% of Google employees. Researchers are fighting for change, but there is a culture of resistance to their efforts. Five researchers are spearheading efforts to make the AI ecosystem more equitable, such as Senior Data Science Manager at Shopify in Atlanta, Georgia, and a General Chair of the 2023 Deep Learning Indaba conference.
