The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled platforms for use in warfare, with the goal of creating AI-driven machines of war that operate free from all human oversight and control. The CCP’s capacity to build such weapons is quickly reaching parity with that of the United States, and may even exceed it soon. Gregory Allen, director of the Wadhwani Center for AI and Advanced Technologies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, notes that the CCP’s pursuit of AI-driven weapons and other military platforms has been ongoing for years.
