Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already having a major impact on society and industries, and is poised to disrupt them even further. However, the consolidation of power in the hands of a few Big Tech companies is a major concern for ethicists. OpenAI’s decision to not share details on how it trained its chatbot is an example of how AI is retreating towards privacy. This is similar to the blockchain industry, where power has consolidated around a few key players. Consolidation in AI poses a bigger challenge due to how quickly algorithmic biases are replicated as the technology scales, and transparency is needed to ensure trust.
