Google has removed its Chrome Cleanup Tool from its Chrome 111 update, an application distributed to Chrome users on Windows to detect and remove unwanted software (UwS). The tool was first introduced in 2015 to support users from unexpected settings changes. It has performed more than 80 million cleanups since its launch. Google has also removed a component that periodically scans Windows and alerts users for cleanup. However, browsers are still protected by safe browsing in Chrome. Google will continue to monitor user feedback and usage data to determine if the Chrome Cleanup Tool is needed in the future.
