This article discusses the use of cloud native software and platforms for implementing critical closed loop control in industrial IoT systems. It explores the challenges and solutions for achieving low latency and reliable wireless communication, and presents a testbed demonstration of closed loop control using MPC. The article also examines the feasibility of offloading control to the cloud and presents three controller designs tailored for use with the cloud. Finally, it addresses the issues of latency and congestion in cloud control systems.
