A new sovereign cloud complex is being set up in Germany to address concerns about data privacy and sovereignty in the cloud. This project, led by Amazon Web Services, will allow customers to maintain data residency within the EU and operate independently from other regions. European leaders have been pushing for “digital sovereignty” and this investment reinforces their commitment to control their own data and technology. The dominance of US tech giants in the public cloud market has only increased concerns about independence, especially with the rise of AI and data processing.
