In 2021, Adam Selipsky became the head of AWS, Amazon’s cloud unit, while Andy Jassy took over as CEO. In 2023, Jassy touted AWS’s potential to provide infrastructure for companies developing AI services, but Amazon has yet to emerge as a leader in generative AI. Selipsky recently left AWS and was replaced by Matt Garman, but the company is still perceived as falling behind its cloud rivals in developing AI tools.
