Alphabet’s cloud business suffered in the face of Microsoft’s successful AI investment in the September quarter. Microsoft’s investment in OpenAI’s technology has been integrated across its product catalog, while Alphabet has deployed AI in its Pixel phones and search engine. Microsoft’s CFO reported that higher-than-expected AI consumption was responsible for a 3 percentage point boost to its cloud business.
