Amazon has announced a substantial investment of up to $4 billion in the OpenAI competitor, Anthropic. This strategic move puts Amazon in direct competition with tech giants like Microsoft, Meta (formerly Facebook), Google, and Nvidia in the thriving AI landscape. Amazon is taking a multi-phased approach to this investment, initially spending $1.25 billion on Anthropic, securing a minority stake in the AI company. The e-commerce giant will also foster collaboration to develop cutting-edge AI models, with a focus on safety research and product development. AWS will become Anthropic’s primary cloud provider for mission-critical workloads, granting access to advanced compute infrastructure.
