Edge storage systems are becoming increasingly popular due to the explosion of data created by IoT devices and the movement toward distributed remote work. Infrastructure and operations leaders are expanding storage beyond the traditional data center towards the public cloud and the edge to deliver data services close to or at the location where the data is generated or consumed. By 2025, more than 40% of enterprise storage will be deployed at the edge, and large enterprises will triple their unstructured data capacity stored as file or object storage on-premises, at the edge, or in the public cloud. Edge computing allows vast amounts of data to be immediately captured and ingested before then being streamed to the data center or cloud, and organizations may also process the raw data at the edge and only forward a subset of analyzed or enriched data to the central site.
