This article examines how cloud-bound applications use open APIs and data formats to bind applications with compute infrastructure and offload integration responsibilities such as stateful orchestration, event-driven interactions, and reliable synchronous interactions into cloud services. The increasing adoption of application-first cloud services is causing applications to blend with the cloud services at deeper levels than before and shifting the runtime and integration boundaries. This article examines the commoditization of the full software stack by cloud-bound applications and how this is allowing developers to focus on business logic by offloading more application logic and management responsibilities into cloud services.
