A recent study has ranked Malta as the fourth most metaverse-ready nation, with various factors such as broadband speed, blockchain start-ups, and metaverse searches being considered. While there is currently no specific legal framework for the metaverse in Malta, existing laws such as consumer and data protection laws may apply. However, as the metaverse becomes more widespread, new legal and regulatory challenges are expected to arise, particularly in areas such as the sale and use of digital assets and services. As an EU member state, Malta will also be required to implement any legislation related to the metaverse enacted by the European Union.
