The government is currently reconsidering the safe harbour provision, which grants immunity to social media intermediaries from posts made by third-party users. This was discussed in the first consultation of the Digital India Bill, with stakeholders suggesting that the government retain the safe harbour provision in the current Information Technology Act, 2000.
