Coscientist, an AI developed by Carnegie Mellon University, has autonomously mastered and executed complex Nobel Prize-winning chemical reactions, demonstrating significant potential in enhancing scientific discovery and experimental precision. This AI-based system was able to autonomously learn about certain Nobel Prize-winning chemical reactions and design a successful laboratory procedure to make them in just a few minutes. The research team that assembled and tested the AI-based system dubbed their creation “Coscientist” and published their findings in the journal Nature, showing the potential for humans to productively use AI to increase the pace and number of scientific discoveries.
