A team from the Department of Informatics at the University of Sussex won ‘Best Team’ at the European Robotics League’s Milton Keynes Smart City competition. The team, consisting of academics, graduates and undergraduates, programmed a robot, TIAGo, to take a lift and orders at a mock café to test how it would autonomously interact with humans. The robot was programmed to autonomously interact with humans by integrating and building on several areas of artificial intelligence, such as computer vision, object detection, and speech recognition.
