The NHS must embrace robotics and AI in order to make it through the current crisis and be prepared for future ones, according to surgeons. Robotics and AI can help the NHS respond to the challenges of increased demand for healthcare and a staffing shortage. Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, which has the UK’s largest robotic surgery programme, has seen improved bed usage and productivity with the use of the Da Vinci robotics system. Robotics can also enable some patients to go home on the same day as their operation.
