Saya is a multimodal agent that is able to understand people’s intentions and respond accordingly through cutting-edge sensors and AI. This intelligent system is part of the Society 5.0 concept proposed by Japan, which extends the Fourth Industrial Revolution initiative and incorporates AI, the Internet of Things, big data and robots into every aspect of society. Saya was showcased at the Gunma Digital Land exhibition and is being developed by a consortium of Japanese universities and firms. It is designed to surpass the uncanny valley and is expected to be used in autonomous transport, elderly care and other scenarios that would benefit from human touch.
