ChatGPT, the open-source language model by OpenAI, has been making waves since its launch in November 2022. With its capabilities already being realised across sectors, clean energy companies are asking what the technology can do for the energy transition. GPT-3 and GPT-4 are trained on 570GB of text data and use deep learning algorithms to generate human-like responses to natural language inputs. Companies have begun to incorporate ChatGPT’s abilities into their corporate strategies, with Morgan Stanley using GPT-4 to power an internal chatbot to search their content library. When asked what it could do for the energy transition, GPT-3 wrote that it could accelerate the adoption of renewable energy sources and improve energy efficiency.
