CAI draws on large volumes of data, machine learning, and natural language processing to imitate human interactions. It was launched in 2017 by psychologist and technologist Alison Darcy, and has become more advanced and ubiquitous since then. Psychotherapists have been using AI for mental health since the 1960s.
