Baidu unveiled its AI-powered chatbot Ernie Bot on Thursday, but disappointed investors with its use of pre-recorded videos and the lack of a public launch. Ernie is short for “Enhanced Representation through Knowledge Integration” and is seen as a rival to US research lab OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Baidu’s Hong Kong shares tumbled as much as 10% as a result of the presentation.
