Researchers at Queen Mary University of London have developed a machine learning model that can predict dementia with 82% accuracy up to nine years before diagnosis. The model analyzes functional magnetic resonance imaging scans and identifies changes in the brain’s default mode network, which is believed to play a role in daydreaming and introspection. The model was tested on medical records and found to accurately predict dementia within a two-year window.
