A recent study published in the journal Nature Biomedical Engineering demonstrated the use of deep learning to resurrect antibiotic peptides from extinct organisms, providing new solutions for antibiotic resistance and other biomedical challenges. The study utilized a deep learning algorithm to mine available proteomes of extinct organisms and identify potential antimicrobial peptides, which were then tested against clinically relevant pathogens. The results show promise for using deep learning in antibiotic discovery and addressing the growing issue of antibiotic resistance.
