Northwestern University engineers have developed a new AI algorithm, called Maximum Diffusion Reinforcement Learning (MaxDiff RL), that encourages robots to explore their environments randomly in order to gain a diverse set of experiences. This improves the quality of data collected and allows robots to learn complex skills faster and more efficiently. The algorithm consistently outperformed other AI models and enables robots to successfully perform tasks on the first attempt.
