A Rutgers researcher and high school student have developed a method using machine learning to screen existing drugs for potential treatments for addiction-related disorders. The method focuses on the orexin 1 receptor, which regulates physiological phenomena such as wakefulness and feeding. The student, Vanessa Zhang, was motivated by the toll of eating disorders among her peers and combined her interests in machine learning and combatting eating disorders for the project.
