In November, Google’s AI outfit DeepMind published a press release claiming to have discovered millions of new materials using deep learning. However, further analysis by external researchers has found that the materials discovered were not as novel as initially claimed. The researchers also found that the use of AI and robotics in the discovery process may have removed human intuition and creativity from the equation.
