Bhavish Aggarwal, co-founder and CEO of Ola, has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for himself and his new company called Krutrim, which is a term that means ‘artificial’ in Sanskrit. Krutrim has released a large generative AI foundational model trained on Indian languages, and has also unveiled cooling technologies for data centres and plans to design homegrown silicon chips. Aggarwal joins the growing ranks of Indian companies that are building large language models (LLMs) trained on Indian languages, and GenAI systems fall under the broad category of machine learning. Ola Electric and Ola Cabs are dabbling with foundational models, data centres, and silicon chips, and this announcement comes at a time when the government is set to unveil its AI policy.
