Ola Electric, the parent company of electric cars and scooters, is developing its own large language model (LLM) called Krutrim. This is part of the growing trend of Indian companies building LLMs trained on Indian languages. Krutrim is a generative AI system, which falls under the broad category of machine learning, and is capable of creating new content such as audio, code, images, text, simulations, and videos. Ola Electric is gearing up to file for an IPO and is targeting a valuation of $7-8 billion by early 2024. The release of Krutrim’s base foundation model also comes at a time when the Indian government is set to unveil its AI policy under the India AI programme.
