Carnegie Mellon University researchers have developed a non-organic intelligent system, called Coscientist, that can autonomously design, plan and execute a chemistry experiment. The system uses large language models (LLMs) to execute the full range of the experimental process with a simple, plain language prompt. The system can quickly, accurately and efficiently design and run an experiment, far more than a human alone could do. The research group demonstrated that Coscientist can plan the chemical synthesis of known compounds.
