Leidos and Domino Data Lab conducted a digital wargame earlier this year that simulated a maritime combat scenario. Over 60 AI researchers from Leidos participated, and the winning team achieved a perfect score using a novel approach to machine learning called Reinforcement Learning (RL). RL is a concept that operationalizes the idea of generating software that can enable a machine to learn from its environment through trial and error, similar to how young children learn. Leidos invited two experts to a virtual roundtable to discuss how RL can be used to achieve desired outcomes in unstructured situations more efficiently than other approaches to machine learning.
