D.C. Safe Babies Safe Moms, an initiative by MedStar Health, has launched a Clinton Global Initiative project to use AI and machine learning to build a maternal and infant health safety surveillance system for hospitals. The system will monitor patient electronic health records to identify clinical patterns of care and analyze the sentiment and tone of provider notes. The goal is to help care teams understand the risks for patients before risks become emergencies, as well as to help health systems better understand and address structural racism and racial disparities in maternal care.
