Jason Allen won the top prize for emerging digital artists at the Colorado State Fair in 2022, using a generative AI tool called Midjourney. This has caused concern among both artists and IT professionals, as generative AI tools allow technical novices to generate compelling text, photos, and videos in an automated and near-instantaneous fashion. Citizen development, if executed carefully, could change the relationship between employees and organizations, allowing nontechnical employees to collaborate with generative AI tools to build entire applications.
