Britain’s MI5 is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning tools to sift through videos watched by terrorist suspects to assess the risk they pose to society. This will allow computer programmes to do the work once carried out by hundreds of spies and spare staff from having to watch disturbing images. Ken McCallum, the organisation’s director general, revealed the use of AI and Machine Learning to students at Glasgow University, explaining why MI5 wants to recruit maths graduates and how they will become the spies of the future.
