This review explains the basics of machine learning (ML), a subfield of AI, and reviews its rapidly growing applications related to prostate cancer. ML involves the development and deployment of algorithms that analyse data and its properties and use statistical tools to determine the actions. ML algorithms are dynamic and tend to improve or ‘learn’ as more data are introduced. We also provide our perspective on the potential effects and challenges presented by AI in our clinical world.
