OpenAI’s ChatGPT software has opened up a space for machine-learning software, and the world’s biggest software companies have been quick to capitalise on it. Alphabet, Microsoft, Baidu, Salesforce, and Meta have all released their own generative AI services, and many researchers and executives have left to found their own machine-learning startups. Microsoft announced that its search engine Bing would be powered by OpenAI’s software, and Baidu followed with its own ChatGPT rival, Weixin.
