Google has recently upgraded its Bard AI chatbot to use PaLM 2, a machine learning model developed in-house. PaLM stands for Pathways Language Model and refers to the use of Google’s Pathways AI architecture to help train machine learning models to perform a variety of tasks. PaLM 2 has been trained in over 100 languages and has better domain-relevant knowledge in areas such as coding, logical reasoning, and mathematical ability. It is also designed to enable multimodal AI beyond text, which is part of Google’s vision to reach Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
