Google recently unveiled PaLM 2, a next-generation language model that offers enhanced reasoning capabilities compared to GPT-4. PaLM 2 is available in smaller sizes, such as Gecko, Otter, Bison, and Unicorn, which are optimised for applications with limited processing power. Google claims that PaLM 2 demonstrates improved performance in tasks like WinoGrande and DROP, with a slight advantage in ARC-C. Additionally, PaLM 2 is significantly smaller than its predecessor, PaLM, and is likely smaller than GPT-3.5. PaLM 2 also provides more concise summaries and improved sourcing, making it the better choice for research.
