The US Department of Defense (DoD) has been contracting big data analytics firm Palantir Technologies for research and development (R&D) services into the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The US Army Contracting Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland is in charge of the project, which has been ongoing since 28 September 2022 and is expected to be completed by 28 September 2023. GlobalData estimates the total AI market will be worth $383.3bn in 2030, and ML is an application of AI that has the most practical benefits, as it allows computer systems to learn and improve from data without explicit programming. The military is using AI and ML to process enormous amounts of data to gain a competitive edge in the battlespace environment.
