Data from a London-based analytics startup shows that the five biggest tech firms have an estimated 33,000 people working directly on AI research and development, with Amazon leading the pack. Microsoft and Google follow with 7,133 and 4,970 AI-focused employees respectively. The numbers highlight the seriousness with which the tech giants are taking their AI work, but also how slow and cautious they have been to create services with the technology.
