The Satellite Communication Industry Association of India (SIA) has urged the telecom regulator to exempt Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) satellite services from the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) in its submission to a recent TRAI consultation on telecom authorization frameworks. SIA and fellow industry body Indian Space Association (ISpA) argue against a combined authorization for the two services, stating that they are fundamentally different in terms of scope, nature, and purpose.
