In a groundbreaking development, researchers have used deep learning models to uncover a novel class of antibiotics capable of combating drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria. Artificial intelligence (AI) has enabled scientists to identify the latest antibiotics, marking the first significant advance in antibiotic discovery in six decades. The team trained their deep learning model by expanding datasets and evaluating approximately 39,000 compounds for antibiotic activity against MRSA. The integration of toxicity predictions with the model’s inner workings has enabled the team to refine the selection of potential drugs.
