Andrew Ng, a Google Brain project member, Stanford professor, and founder of Coursera, is an AI expert who has been pushing the boundaries of the technology for over a decade. He is currently investing in and building AI start-ups, running one of his own, and teaching courses on AI. Recently, the FT visited Ng’s Palo Alto offices, where he demonstrated how an open-source large language model (LLM) from French AI start-up Mistral can run without needing to send data to the cloud. Ng is an advocate of open-source AI development and has become an outspoken critic of some government efforts to regulate it.
