This Special Issue focuses on the emergence of new distributed or cloud-based architectures for the Internet of Things, including smart algorithms and services for everyday applications targeting holistic, innovative, and sustainable systems. It discusses the role of Intelligent Information Systems (IISs) and their applications in automation, which are enabled by the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). It also covers the concept of the Internet of Everything (IoE) and its need for system-level smart and cognitive processes or algorithms supported by Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) logic. Lastly, it addresses the need for sustainability in Information Systems, including services supported by IoT devices, and the important issues that must be addressed to implement these Sustainable Intelligent Information Systems.
