Apple is investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies, with the aim of adapting them for iPhones and iPads. The company is looking for dozens of people to work on large language models (LLMs) in offices in California, Seattle, Paris, and Beijing. Apple’s Machine Intelligence, Neural Design (MIND) group is working on projects ranging from fundamental research on LLMs to compressing existing language models so they can run efficiently on mobile devices. Apple CEO Tim Cook has described AI and ML as “core, fundamental technologies” and the company has increased its R&D spending for the third quarter in order to invest in generative AI.
