Researchers at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) have developed a deep learning model that uses a single chest X-ray to predict the 10-year risk of heart attack or stroke due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. This model could be used for population-based screening for cardiovascular disease risk and help identify patients who may benefit from statin medication. The model, named CXR-CVD risk, was trained using 147,497 chest X-rays from 40,643 participants and tested on 11,430 outpatients, of which 1,096 experienced a major cardiac event over an average follow-up period of 1 year.
